Diet and Nutrition

Healthy eating

My knowledge of diet and nutrition comes from my own experiences. Unfortunately for me, I have suffered with Ibs and colitis for 20 plus years now.  What I have taken from this, which is very positive, is discovering and understanding food and diet.

I have learnt a lot from the various naturopaths, nutritionists and gastroentorologists I have seen over the years. Some have worked and some definitely haven't! It's from these experiences I have gathered information on the gut and digestion.

Of course, no one person's system is the same so I do my best to cater for each persons needs.  I don't really like the word 'diet', as to me it sounds a bit like starvation and rather punitive!

However, when it comes to making sure one gets all nutrients and wants to lose weight, I prefer to work with 'food combining'.  The theory with this is not mixing proteins with carbohydrates-sooooo i.e if you decide to have a roast lunch, take out the carbs orrrr a salad with a protein of sorts.  That way you still get your nutrients but the metabolism moves faster, as it has less food groups to break down. Also little and often 'food portions' can be effective.

The trap some people get caught in is trying to loose weight quickly. This method usually ends with them putting the weight back on. This is why I suggest "food combining" it's slower but effective.

To be serious about getting slimmer, is also cutting out cakes, biccies and sweets. And alcohol being the 'hidden' calorie to be a consideration.

After all exercise is just part of getting in shape and getting fitter!!

Exercise can also really help low mood and depression.
